Court remands man over ‘threat to life, fraud’

A Lagos Magistrate Court has ordered a Car Dealer, Odunayo Owoleye, 36, to be remanded over alleged threat to life and fraud.
Odunayo was said to have allegedly obtaining the sum of N1,070,000
from a customer, Chidiebere Eze, under the pretext to sell a Lexus RX 300 Jeep to him, but instead allegedly converted the money to his use.
The Police prosecutor, Abbass Abayomi, disclosed that the accused’s arrest was ordered by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), in charge of Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos, Adamu Ibrahim, following a petition by Chidiebere Eze.
Owoleye was charged before an Igbosere Magistrate Court, Lagos on a three-count charge of felony to wit, obtaining money under false pretence and threat to life.
Abayomi informed the Court in charge No C/80A/2017 that the accused committed the alleged crime with others still at large on 28 July, 2016 at Mile 2 Estate, Lagos.
He said the accused introduced himself to the complainant as a car dealer and collected the sum of N1,070,000 from the complainant to sell a Lexus RX 300 Jeep to him.
However, instead of selling the Jeep to the complainant, the accused converted the money to his personal use.
The prosecutor said that when the complainant confronted the accused on why he refused to sell the Jeep to him after he had paid for it, the accused warned the complainant to stop disturbing or he would do something terrible to him if he continued to pester him about the vehicle.
When the charges were read to him, the accused pleaded not guilty and his counsel, Johnson Ajibola, prayed the court to admit the defendant to bail on the most liberal terms, promising that he would not jump bail.
Chief Magistrate, A.O Komolafe, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum who must show proof of three years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
Komolafe adjourned the case till December 14, 2017, for mention and ordered that the defendant be remanded at Ikoyi prison, Lagos pending when he fulfils the bail conditions.
