Court remands nursing mother for stealing clothes 8-day after delivery

A 21-year-old nursing mother, Janet Ismail, was Monday remanded in Ilesa correctional centre by a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun state, for allegedly stealing clothes.

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Kayode Adeoye, alleged that the defendant committed the purported crime eight days after she delivered her baby.

Prosecution told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence on March 2, 2021, at Orita-Elelede area, Osogbo.

He alleged that the defendant broke into a shop, belonging to one Olalere Modinat, and stole different types of clothes valued N300,000.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the allegation of house breaking and stealing pressed against her by the police.

The alleged offences were contrary to sections 383 and 390(9) of the criminal code cap 34 Vol II law of Osun state, 2002.

Counsel to the defendant, Okobe Najite, urged the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.

The defendant, who was arraigned with the new baby, was thereby remanded in Ilesa correctional centre by Magistrate Adijat Oloyade.

Magistrate Oloyade adjourned the matter to April 12, 2021 for hearing.
