Court sentences 2 to death for killing UNIOSUN student


For killing a 400 level student of Osun State University, UNIOSUN, Miss Rofiat Damilola Adebisi, an Osun state High Court sitting in Ikirun, headquarters of Ifelodun local government, has sentenced two persons, Elijah Oyebode, 25, and Jelili Raji (aka Ifa), 35, to death by hanging. 


The convicts were arraigned on three count charges bothering on conspiracy and murder in November 2017. 


According to the charge sheet, the offences were contrary to Sections 324, 316 and punishable under Sections 319 and 322 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol II, Laws of Osun state, 2002.


The prosecution from the state Ministry of Justice led by Kareem Adekilekun, told the court that the deceased boarded a Golf Car with Registration number, Lagos FKJ 636 DL driven by Elijah Oyebode on the 22nd December, 2016 from Ipetu-Ijesa campus of the university. 


The prosecution said, “On the 23rd of December, 2016 the body of Rofiat Damilola Adebisi was later found by the road side along Egbeda/Iragbiji Road. 


“Yusuf Ajibade was arrested through the deceased PHONE (IPHONE 5) which he sold to Quadri on the instruction of Elijah Oyebode.


“Oyebode in his statement said Jelili Raji asked him to supply him a maid and gave him a charm to touch any lady he intended to bring and the lady will not argue with him. 


He confessed that he collected N10,000 for the job to take the victim to the shrine of Raji. 


During the trial, prosecution counsel called 5 witnesses including a police officer in the Homicide Section, State Criminal Investigation Department and an officer of the Department of State Security Service, who tracked the mobile phone of the deceased. 


Justice Oyejide Falola said the prosecution counsel has proofed his case beyond reasonable doubt and found Elijah Oyebode and Jelili Raji guilty of murder and conspiracy.


The court subsequently sentenced the convicts to death by hanging. 


Meanwhile, one Yusuf Ajibade, who reportedly bought the phone was sentenced to two years imprisonment for receiving stolen property.
