Covid-19: Bibi Oweifagha urges Bayelsans to obey stay-at-home order

The Former special assistant to the immediate past governor Hon.  Bibi  Oweifagha has commended the Bayelsa Government under the leadership of Senator Douye Diri for the proactive Measures taken   towards the fight against the spread of the dreaded covid-19 pandemic which is ravaging the whole world.

Bibi, a former vice-chairman of the Bayelsa state security outfit, as well as the state vice chairman of Peace and Conflict resolution while speaking to newsmen said with the declaration of the stay-at-home order and the imposition of curfew from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. in the state is a step in the right direction towards the checking the spread of the Coronavirus.

 According to him with the record of about 5 positive cases in the state the governor’s action will curtail further spread of the virus.

 He advised Bayesians not to see the action as an act of wickedness, punitive measures or which hunting  but as an act geared towards the best interests of the state in terms of health needs and social well-being of Bayelsans as only the living can go to church operate market , Club and travel.

Commenting on the demolition of structures at the Poplar swali market in the state, Hon Bibi said that governor’s action is being misinterpreted according to him the governor has not destroyed any property but only demolition illegal structures at the market he cited an example in instance of the present Minister of Transport Chief Rotimi Amaechi who as the then Governor of Rivers state demolished illegal structure at the Popular mile1 market in River state and replace them with modern structures, adding that to the mile one market in Rivers State is one of the ultra modern market in the country.

He  said the governor Diri is yearing for development in bayelsa state hence the demolition of illegal structure he maintain that those illegal structure serve as harbour for criminals when snatch people properties and kept them there under the covers that it is a market area.

He said Governor Diri has started on a sound footing by paying retirees and pensioner their  their gratuities and benefits which spanned up to ten years which they never received.
