COVID 19: Commissioner gives update on Kano

Following the lock-down effected in some states in the country, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic currently ravaging the globe, the Kano state government said it has not recorded a single confirmed case of Coronavirus in the state.

Giving update on the performance of the State Task Force Committee on Covid-19 at a press briefing in Kano, Thursday, the State Commissioner of Health, Dr Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, stated that the unprecedented feat recorded in the containment drive was as a result of concerted effort put on ground by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for greater result.

According to him, the multi-sectoral, multi-disciplinary and all-encompassing state Task Force on Covid-19  is working day and night coordinating all the emergency preparedness and response activities for the containment and prevention of the Covid-19 global pandemic

He, however,stated that  the ferocity of the pandemic was quite frightening as   the numbers were increasing on a daily basis across the globe affirming that such a frightening  dimension has alarmed the State government to expand its preparedness measures for quarantine and  isolation facilities with the donation of 500- bed capacity isolation Centre at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

He said “as you are all aware, the governor of Kano state, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has confirmed that the Kano state government undertakes drastic measures against the spread of the disease which include; closure of schools, restricting movement, declaration for all workers to stay at home for two weeks, banning use of places of social gatherings among other measures”.

“An endowment fund has also been established to mobilize resources for the protection of, control and prevention efforts as well as easing the hardship being faced by the public as a result of measures being taken to face the challenge” he stressed.
