Covid-19: Early preparation responsible for no fatality case in Taraba – Gov Ishaku

Taraba state Governor, Arc Darius Dickson Ishaku, said his administration is expanding testing and treatment facilities for COVID-19 in preparation for the next phase of its campaign against the pandemic.

A statement issued by the Special Adviser to the governor on Media and Publicity, Bala Dan Abu, on Thursday, quoted him as speaking in Jalingo when members of the Task Force on COVID-19 led by its chairman, Dr Innocent Vakkai, presented an executive summary on the activities of the Task Force to him.

The report showed that the state recorded so far 95 cases of Covid 19 infection but without a single fatality.

Ishaku attributed the low cases of infection and high rate of survival to the early and adequate preparations made by his administration.

He recalled how he was heavily criticised by political opponents for his timely decision to lock down and close markets, worship centres and the state’s borders.

These measures, he noted, have paid off and thanked the people of the state for bearing the pains of those necessary steps taken to prevent spread of the disease with understanding.

On the way forward, Ishaku assured that efforts were being intensified to keep the disease completely out of Taraba State and also that nobody dies as a result of it.

Speaking earlier, chairman of the Task Force, Vakkai attributed the successes recorded in the battle against the pandemic to the moral and material support from the governor.

He said in the next phase
of activities against the spread of the pandemic, sensitisation will remain a critical area of emphasis.
