COVID-19: Edo council flags-off refuse evacuation

As part of efforts to curtail the spread of coronavirus and other environmental impact diseases in the locality, the leadership of Oredo Local Government Area (LGA) in Edo state has commenced refuse evacuation from markets and other public facilities.

The exercise according to officials was part of efforts and programmes developed  by the council boss, Jenkins Osunde, to keep the local government area clean.

Hon. Matthew Ikponwmwosa Eagle, the head of the council’s task force on sanitation said the exercise would keep markets clean, adding that it would be a routine exercise.

He stated that major markets in Oredo LGA were targets in the evacuation plan and urged market women and residents “to utilise designated refuse disposal bins and points in their various markets and areas properly.”

The state government had directed council authorities to relocate traders of food items to public primary and secondary schools to make way for fumigation in response to the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the state.
