COVID-19: Gobir sets up N30m health fund for Kwara

As the federal government intensifies efforts in preventing the spread of coronavirus, a Kwara-based businessman and philanthropist, Waziri Yakubu Gobir has set up a N30 million health fund, in support of the fight against the pandemic.

Speaking to journalists in Ilorin after his tour of some leading health institutions in Kwara state, Waziri Gobir announced the establishment of the fund by his organization for residents in the state, especially those who might be unable to afford medical bills in the hospitals. 

He said five major hospitals in Kwara state were selected for the implementation of the first phase of the scheme. The hospitals are:   General Hospital, Ilorin, Sobi Specialist Hospital, Unilorin Teaching Hospital, Kwara Civil Service Hospital and Centre Igboro Children Specialist Hospital, Ilorin. 

Waziri who gave a million naira each to the hospitals he visited for mobilisation, commended the efforts of the various health workers in the state, saying, “Your effort should be commended for sacrificing time, and risking your lives to protect us all.” 

Gobir also commended the efforts of the National Center for Diseases Control (NCDC) for taking decisive action to curtail the spread of coronavirus in Nigeria. He urged all well meaning Nigerians to support the efforts of government.
