Residents of Anambra state, Sunday, celebrated what could be described as her first official boom in religious activities following the lift on ban for congregational worship in the state.
The state Governor, Willie Obiano, had in a statewide on Saturday night, relaxed the lockdown order which had been for 28 days due to coronavirus pandemic, urging movements and church services although with face masks and in full compliance with World Health Organisation (WHO) protocols.
Blueprint reports that most Churches in Awka, Onitsha, Nnewi, Ekwulobia and their environs including the Catholic, Anglican and Penticostal Churches like Christ Embassy, Redeemed Church of God and others opened for normal Sunday masses and services although with few congregants in attendance .
However, while most congregations adhered to the WHO COVID-19 rules such as social distancing, hand washing and use of hand-sanitisers either provided by their churches or selves, majority were with no facemasks.
A statement from the Catholic Diocese of Awka, Ekwulobia, Nnewi and Archdiocese of Onistha had directed their parishioners to kick-off what they termed the Sacrament of Eucharist while waiting for instructions from the CBCN.
Speaking to our correspondents, a worshipper, Miss Margret Ejiofor, and a pastor, Rev. Mike Onodugo, commended the government for lifting the ban, which they described as triumph over evil and satanic attacks.
Others maintained that the new directive would help to quicken the fight against Corona virus pandemic through “fellowshiping together,” and fervent prayers.
