COVID-19: Julius Berger donates food items to Lagos communities

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the face of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic which is compounded by the stay-at-home order being  enforced in some states the Julius Berger Nigeria (JBN) Plc has kicked off the distribution of palliatives to residents of Lagos state.

A press statement by the company’s media relations office said the exercise began, Thursday, at the Palace of the Oba of Lagos, Iduganran, where 500 bags of quality rice and assorted cooking condiments were donated through Oba Rilwan Akiolu for further distribution to the people.

This as the same quantity of relief materials were also donated to the host community of JBN Western Region office through the Executive Chairman of Apapa Local Government, Hon. Adele Owolabi Elijah.

Speaking during the presentation, the Regional Manager of Julius Berger’s Region West, Commercial, Mr. Alexander Bauer, said the palliatives were the company’s “modest way to identify with the fight against coronavirus. We identify with measures by government to make Nigerians stay at home and in a healthy way. We hope our little contribution will assist people in your local government in no small way.”

The statement said the monarch thanked Julius Berger for its concern for the wellbeing of his people, just as the council boss said: “We have always known Julius Berger to be one company that is sensitive about the community where it operates and the government.

This gesture has increased your company’s worth before Apapa people and Lagosians. We are grateful and we appreciate your efforts.”

Also at the presentation of the palliatives were Julius Berger’s Regional Manager, Technical, Mr. Thomas Balzuweit; and Head of Julius Berger Lagos Facility Works, Ms Maria Abella.Julius Berger which started its business in Nigeria with the construction of the Eko Bridge in 1965, has continued to proactively partner with the federal, state and local governments in the country in efforts to contain the spread of the deadly corona virus in Nigeria.

In partnership with other corporate bodies, the company had also led the recent work to fumigate Lagos against the spread of Covid-19.
