Covid-19: Kano govt charges residents on safety protocols

The Kano state government has called on residents of the state to use face mask and adhere to Covid-19 safety guidelines as it announced total eased of restrictions imposed to stem further spread of the pandemic.

The chairman, Committee on Public Places Management for Covid-19 Response, Dr. Kabiru Getso, made the call in a statement on Friday in Kano.

Getso, the Commissioner for Environment, said it was imperative for the people to imbibe the habits of using face masks and avoid mass gatherings to contain the spread of the pandemic and other communicable diseases.

He said the committee had scaled up sensitisation activities to encourage use of face mask in religious places of worship and other public places in the state.

The commissioner said the committee had so far distributed over 130,000 pieces of face masks to mosques and churches in the 44 local government areas of the state.

“The committee plans to donate face mask to about 40 selected super markets and stores in the state, as part of sustained efforts to curtail spread of the novel Coronavirus.

“The committee is collaborating with Faith Based Organisations (FBOs), trade unions and development organisations to enhance sensitisation aimed awareness creation on preventive measures of the disease in the society,” he said.
