Covid-19: Kano govt reads riot act to school proprietors

The Kano state government has warned proprietors of private schools who refused to comply with the directives on closure of schools as a result of the coronavirus pandemic to comply with the order or face the wrath of the law.

The commissioner for education, Alhaji Mohammad Sunusi Kiru, gave  the warning while briefing newsmen in Kano Thursday.

He  stated that  reports reaching the ministry had indicated that some unpatriotic private school proprietors had shun the directives issued by the state government by refusing to close down their schools.

According to him the ministry had constituted a taskforce committee which would go round to ascertain the level of compliance, saying any school found violating the directive would be prosecuted.

He noted that the schools found violating the directives would have their licences revoked to serve as a deterrent to other recalcitrant school proprietors.

He however explained that the ministry in collaboration with the office of the secretary to the state government (SSG) would hold a meeting with teachers of Tsangaya schools to address the issue of roaming about of the almajiri along the major streets of Kano.

He said any almajir found roaming about on the streets, would be arrested and repatriated to their respective states of origin.
