COVID-19: Lagos lawmaker distributes food items to constituents

A member of the Lagos state House of Assembly, Hon Sanai Agunbiade, has donated food items to the people of his constituency to cushion the effect of the current lockdown in the state.

Agunbiade, representing Ikorodu constituency I, distributed the items Thursday at his constituency secretariat through his Senior Media Aide, Hon Azeez Olosugbo.

According to the lawmaker, the exercise is aimed at complementing the efforts of the state government in cushioning the effects of the lockdown on the elderly and the vulnerable members of the public.

Agunbiade, who is also the Majority Leader of the assembly, urged residents to always use face masks and maintain social distancing and personal hygiene as stipulated by government and health professionals.

“As Muslims continue to observe Ramadan fasting, efforts to curtail the spread of COVID-19 must continue with distribution of food items to the Muslim community and people of my constituency.

”These items are meant to cushion the effect of the stay-at- home order and the hard economic situation brought by the coronavirus pandemic.

The lawmaker listed the relief materials to include rice, garri and other consumables goods, targeted at 5,000 people in Ikorodu Local Government as well as Ikorodu West and Ikorodu North Local Council Development Areas.

He said that the move was to keep to the tradition of giving food items to the Muslims in Ikorodu constituency I during the month of Ramadan.

“It is to equally support the administration of Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu to jointly curb the spread of coronavirus in the state.

“I urged residents of my constituency to use of face masks, maintain personal hygiene and observe social distancing and follow all the preventive guidelines that will help curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

“I will continue to do more with the mandate given to him by the good people of Ikorodu constituency I,” he said.

In his remarks, the Chief Imam of Ikorodu West LCDA, Alhaji Aridegbe Kosoko, thanked the lawmaker for the relief materials given to the Muslims in the council area.

Kosoko commended the lawmaker for his magnanimity at a time like this, saying that it was worth emulating.

The Chief Imam of Ikorodu North LCDA, Alhaji Lamina Eniijaoba, also applauded the legislator for his consistency in the provision of food items, especially during Ramadan.

He prayed Allah to protect, guide and spare Agunbiade’s life to do more for the Muslim community in his constituency and the state at large.
