COVID -19: Nigerian leaders must show greater concern for the poor- Balogun

The Ajia Balogun Olubadan, Oloye Adegboyega Adegoke  Monday urged Nigeria  leaders to have greater concern for the poor in this COVID-19 pandemic period.

Adegoke who  said this in a chat with newsmen on the lessons of this year’s end of Ramadan fasting emphasised the importance of the need for leaders to feel the plights of their people, especially the poor.

Balogun said if the leaders can do  this, it will go a long way to  recognise the spiritual core of man and give no room for senseless materialism, greed and primitive accumulation of wealth.

“As we are combating the menace of coronavirus pandemic, I want us all, irrespective of the religion, position or tribe to obey the law of the land and follow all the preventive and precautionary measures put in place to curtail the spread. I want to task our leaders to have greater concern for the poor if they can recognise the spiritual core of man and give no room for senseless materialism, greed and primitive accumulation of wealth”, he said.

Adegoke said, if the spiritual core of man is recognised, it could lead to a better perspective about life and there would be no room for senseless materialism, greed and primitive accumulation of wealth. Rather, there would be greater concern for the poor.

On the recently completed Ramadan fasting, Adegoke urged  Muslims and Nigerians in general  to ensure that the teachings of 2020 Ramadan reflect on their character after the Eid el fitri., urging, all Muslims not to allow the lessons and  significance of the Ramadan fasting to end with it by continuing in the pursuance of peace for national development.

“Muslims should be ready to ensure that the society feels the impact of the fasting period in their character and relationship with others, particularly non-Muslims. I want to urge Muslims nationwide, that having pleaded with Allah for forgiveness, I  urge them not to return to their sins, and act of disobedience to the teachings of Islam and the law of the land.”

The executive director, OES Energy Services Limited congratulated  the Olubadan, all Muslims in Ibadanland, Oyo state and Nigeria in general on the successful completion of this year’s Ramadan fasting. He prayed for Allah’s protection on all during and after the celebration.
