The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Enugu state branch, has directed all its members to stop carrying commuters without face masks.

The directive is as a result of the positive cases of coronavirus pandemic that has continued to rise in the state.

Enugu state Wednesday confirmed two more cases of coronavirus thereby bringing to 16 the number of index cases the state has recorded.

The state commissioner for Health, Dr. Ikechukwu Obi, said the index cases in the state had all travele histories in violation of interstate transportation ban.

But addressing journalists in Enugu, the state chairman of RTEAN, Comrade Chidiebere Aniagu, said that the warning became necessary to protect both the commuters themselves and their members from contacting the contagious disease.

Aniagu said, “after an online meeting of the state executives committee of RTEAN on the spread of COVID- 19 in the country, especially now, it has entered community transmission phase, we resolved that henceforth, our members should not carry commuters that are not wearing face masks in our buses.”
