BUK Covid-19 testing centre world-class – NCDC

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has described the Molecular Testing Centre for Covid-19 established by the Bayero University, Kano, as world- class, adding that “it can compete with anyone in the world.

Speaking in Kano Friday, the NCDC team leader, Dr. Ndodo Nnaemeka, who is also the chief molecular bioengineer at the National Reference Laboratory of the NCDC, said the facilities and equipment provided by the university “are of high quality.”

“This is an excellent Molecular Testing Centre, stuff with fantastic facilities and could as well adjudge as a world class in every standard,” he said.

He commended the management of Bayero University for what he termed as an excellent initiative and their foresight for humanitarian services. The NCDC representative assured the university that the Centre would do everything possible to ensure that it maintained its standards.

Earlier, the vice-chancellor, Prof. Muhammad Yahuza Bello, disclosed that the university had invested a whopping sum for the installation of the equipments at the centre as well as the provision of Personal Protective Equipment, PCR and other components of testing kits.

He said the importance of test centre in the fight against Covid-19 could not be overemphasised; hence the desire to also complement government’s efforts in that direction.

Also speaking, the director of the Centre for Infectious Disease Research (CIDR), Prof. Isa Abubakar, said the university had recruited and trained enough personnel to work at the Centre which has the capacity of testing over 180 samples every day.
