COVID-19 pandemic is perhaps the biggest threat and limbo that the world has ever witnessed since the Flu of 1918 – 1920 and wars of 1914 & 1945.
The world at moment is chronically sick if not terminally – the world is beleaguered under COVID-19 – we are bewildered – we are in a blistering point.
The economy of the world is in the limbo and also on the cliff.
We had a blip since last year when this pandemic started in China.
It was allegedly reported by some scriptures that Nostradamus wrote in the year 1551 – ‘There will be a twin year (2020) from which will arise a queen (Corona) who will come from the East (China) and will spread a plague ( virus) in the darkness of night on a country with hills ( Italy) and will transform the twilight of man into dust (death), to destroy and ruin the world – that it will be the end of the world economy as you know it.&
Some analysts pegged COVID-19 as a Biological Warfare among powerful countries.
Whatever and however – you never can tell and adversity has advantages as well as disadvantages.
Initially, I put my hands on my chest that I was bigger than social media – but much later – with different news from the 4 corners of the world on COVID-19 – I come to conclusion that coronavirus is real.
I have never been as petrified, disoriented and overwhelmed as I was. I still wonder when I would next experience the same.
I engaged many people in an intellectual debate to discuss COVID-19 – but our attitudes towards it fall under 3 categories or latitudes. These are latitude of acceptance, rejection and non – commitment.
Our society doesn’t evaluate charlatan negativity; on the country we respect those with boasting lifestyles.
Nigeria announced its first COVID-19 case on February 27 – an Italian who came into the country on February 24 and displayed some symptoms of the disease while visiting a Cement Company in Ogun State.
As at the time of this writing, Nigeria has recorded a total of 139 confirmed cases. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed that 9 were discharged and recorded 2 deaths for COVID-19.
At this moment, rich and poor are caged in the same Zoo.
The NCDC announced the use of Sanitizers, face masks and gloves to protect oneself against COVID-19. These items are now in high demand but they not available on the market.
The social distancing is only observed among the elites at home and social gathering.
The Nigerian government has introduced a number of measures to fight the virus. States governments and the private sector are also taking steps to contain and prevent it from escalation.
The real shame in Nigeria today is the shame of locking our streets due to lack of social safety net, or not being able to meet financial support. Our people are under lockdown without food. People are crying for help.
We are always ill- equipped and ill- prepared in all ramifications. We cannot do something noble in difficult situations.
Nigerian politicians in particular are narcissistic, egoistic and egocentric.
Our country is in many ways a paradox – a nation of abundant resources, a vibrant – with entrepreneurial population of nearly 200million, vast land (arable), minerals of every description, including oil and gas – but still very poor.
This situation is becoming increasingly unacceptable to the good people of Nigeria, and neither Africa nor the world at large should be disinterested in its continuation.
We must be innovative and proactive by devising strategies and action plan that will protect at the moment and in the future. It is our responsibility to protect our people and image as well as ensuring public confidence and trust. We should not be left out of the scheme of things.
I commend the President for an encouraging and inspiring national broadcast and for taking measures to fight COVID-19.
