CP visits INEC offices, assures Commission of security upscale

The Kaduna state Commissioner of Police, CP Yekini Ayoku, on Monday paid an operational security assessment visit to the offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kaduna metropolis.

The Kaduna state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Muhammed Jalige, in a statement signed by him on behalf of the CP said the CP also warned politicians against running foul of the electoral law or they would face the full wrath of the law.

“The Commissioner of Police Kaduna state Command, CP Yekini A. Ayoku on Monday 14th November, 2022, undertook an operational tour of the two offices and facilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kaduna metropolis to assess and upscale security deployment.

“The CP was received by the Commission’s Administrative Secretary, Alhaji Auwal Mohammed Mashi with whom he jointly inspected the facilities and reviewed deployments while proffering professional advice on physical security of assets and materials.

“The security assessment tour was in compliance with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba on the fortification of all INEC offices across the country.

“Divisional Police Officers and their supervisory Area Commanders were earlier directed by the CP in his weekly conference with officers to ensure round-the-clock tight security around INEC offices in their respective Area of Responsibility (AORs).

“The CP took advantage of the visit to assure INEC of the strong support of the Police Command and that of other security agencies in the execution of the Commission’s mandate of conducting a free, fair and credible 2023 general election.

“The CP sternly warned miscreants and mischief makers to steer clear of INEC facilities and advised political actors, candidates and their parties to play the game by the rules or have the law to contend with,” Jalige said.
