Cross River: Tension as thugs attack PDP leaders’ homes

The attack on leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Akpabuyo local government area of Cross River State by suspected political thugs is generating serious tension between the party and the the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Blueprint in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, gathered that among those attacked were homes of the PDP state organising secretary, Mr. Nsa Ekeng, who reportedly escaped death by whiskers.

Others were homes of Francis Effanga, Ekpo Okon, Elder Effiom Edet Ekpo, Amanso Okon Etim, Emmanuel Eyo, and Saviour Maurice.

Speaking, one of the victims, Francis Efanga, said over 100 boys armed with sophisticated guns and other dangerous weapons were involved.

“I called the local vigilance boys and they smuggled me out through the back door, leaving my family members in the house.

“I put calls through to the security for rescue and there was no response”, he said, and disclosed that his two vehicles were vandalised with batteries and other valuables stolen.

Effanga alleged that the APC supporters masterminded the attack, adding “I can tell you that these attacks were carried out by APC boys and their supporters.”

Another victim, Elder Effiom Edet Ekpo, said the attack took place between the hours of 2:30am and 3am on Monday, February 6, 2023, adding “the attackers were shouting APC all through the attack.”

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Sule Balarabe, when contacted, said his men had been deployed to Akpabuyo.

He warned criminal elements to understand that the Police would trail and cause them to face the full weight of the law.
