CSL: Ighalo fire blank as new Chinese club succumb to league defeat

Odion Ighalo’s new Chinese club, Shangai Shenhua were humiliated with a 4-0 defeat at home during their first league season outing .

It was a day to forget for Nigeria’s Super Eagles striker and his new club.

Ighalo moved to Shanghai Shenhua after the relegation of his former team Changchun Yatai.

Shanghai play host to defending champion of the league Shanghai SIPG and suffered 0-4 defeat.

Despite Ighalo tormenting the back line of SIPG, it was the away side that scored the opening goal in the 45th minutes through an own goal from Colombia international Freddy Guarin.

The second half resumed with host searching for a leveller but it was Wenjun Lue that doubled the lead of SIPG in the 65th minute.

The matter became worse for Shenhua as they were reduced to ten men after Di Gao was sent off and Brazilian international Oscar netting the third goal in the 79th minutes.

Odil Akhemedov put the game beyond Shenhua in the 88th minute when he scored the fourth goal.

Ighalo scored 21 goals for Changchun Yatai last season to finish second top scorer in the league
