CSO commends Yobe on health care

The Partnership To Engage, Reform and Learn-Engage Citizens Pillar (PERL-ECP) has called on Yobe state government to strengthen timely release of fund budgeted for nutrition to minimise the mortality rate among new born in the state.
The call was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of a two day workshop organized for stakeholders in the health sector, aimed at sensitising them on the nutritional status in Yobe state and to also advocate for timely release of nutritional funds.
It further said the workshop was also to develop strategies for the effective and efficient utilisation of the approved state nutrition budget to ensure it is sustained.
“Government should support the domestication of the National Food and Nutrition Policy for the State to guide implementation of nutrition interventions in the state.
“There is also need for government to adopt and sign the State Strategic Nutrition Plan 2017-2021 in line with the State Development Plan (YOSERA IV),” the statement read in part.
While commending the state government for its support in the health care delivery, especially in the provision of free medical care to children under five years, pregnant women as well as accident victims, the statement said there was need for the state Assembly to harmonise government/partners contribution on nutrition sector in the state.
Blueprint also learnt that, Yobe is one of the few states in the federation that complied with the Abuja declaration of allocating at least 15 per cent of its total budget to health sector in the 2018 fiscal
