CSO slams KCCI for creating panic in Kano

Progressive Movement for Peace and Democracy, a Civil Society Organisation has come hard on a disgruntled group which members operate as a political pressure element, accusing it of giving the impression that there is tension in Kano with a view to achieving their apparent selfish motive of discrediting the government.

A statement signed by the coordinator of the CSO, Malam Badamasi Abubakar, indicates that the group by the name Kano Concerned Citizens Initiative (KCCI), has through its activities been portraying Kano in palpable tension since the declaration of the February 19 governorship election in Kano as inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He said :‘’Some members of the group are at one time card carrying members of political parties in the state, some of them have been given responsibilities by the governments in the past and have woefully failed. In all that they do, they tilt to one side.

“By their action, we can understand that they are playing politics for a reason, and that is to discredit the present administration in the state. The group, which was created last year, does not represent any interest in the society but the whims and caprices of it proprietors’’.

Malam Abubakar, while referring to the group’s latest press statement titled: ’’On the current situation in Kano’’ and signed by its chairman, Alhaji Bashir Othman Tofa, in which it categorically condemned the decision of the state government to create new emirate, said the action could not in any way cause disunity among the Muslim Hausa speaking people of Kano.

‘’Where were these people as individuals or group when the Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II was imposed on the people of Kano and the violence that ensued thereafter. Are they not aware of the Emir’s participation in politics to which himself has almost comfess and seek Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduj’e forgiveness?’’’ the statement queried.
