The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CCSOs) has commenced sensitisation to traders, students and rural communities across the country on the Central Bank of Nigerian (CBN) new naira notes and the cashless policy.
Leading a team of CSOs in Abuja, the President, Comrade Bassey Etuk Williams, said the group is in support of the apex bank’s policy on the new note, hence its efforts to sensitise Nigerians on the need to key in before it is too late.
He said the CSOs are going across the county, starting from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to educate Nigerians on the need to be proactive to save them needless loss of their hard-earned money.
“The Central Bank of Nigeria is doing a great job that is why the civil society has joined the bank in the campaign to tell Nigerians about the new naira notes and as well as the deadline date.
“CBN has stated clearly that the New naira notes are now in all banks, and the apex bank has mandated banks across the country to stop loading old naira notes in their ATM, assuring that all banks now load their machines with new note. That is why the apex bank as informed Nigerians that the deadline to return all old notes is January 31th which is next week Tuesday.
“Don’t take any advice from any other channel except from the CBN, go to your bank and let your bankers provide you with the new naira note. Also refuse to collect the old notes from them, Bassey charged the listeners”
He assured Nigerians that before the deadline those complaining of insufficient new note will see changes as the apex bank is working assiduously to meet up with the date.
He urged the marketers, students and the locals not to collect old notes again from anyone once it is 30th and that they should ensure they deposit any old note in their possession latest by Tuesday while insisting on being paid the new naira notes.
He further revealed that the sensitisation continues across the country as members of the CSOs are all over the nation talking to Nigerians so they can meet up with the deadlines.
