Cult war claims 10 persons in Asaba

No fewer than 10 persons have been killed in Asaba, Delta state, as rival cult groups, Aromate and black axe confraternities engaged in reprisal attacks.

There was palpable tension in Asaba metropolis especially the affected areas as fear gripped residents.

Details of the incident was sketchy as at press time but a reliable source said trouble trouble began following the brutal murder of one of their leaders.

In a renewed orgy yesterday, the suspected cultists unleashed more violence on Ibusa road, Asaba, killing one of the cultists.

It was gathered that the head was severed and displayed at the popular Coka junction, Ibusa road, Asaba.

It was also reported that one of their veteran was gruseomely murdered behind health center, opposite, Steven Keshi stadium, Asaba by the rival group. 

Recalled that Chairman of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Oshimili South local government area was killed by a rival group on Monday in Asaba.

The victim was shot dead on his way back from school runs as early as 7am, and also shot his wife at the hand side.The ex – NULGE Chairman popularly called “Searchmore” was shot dead in front of wife before shooting his wife at hand.”


An eyewitness had it that, “the man and his wife were in the vehicle coming back after dropping their children in the school.


According to him, “he was a revenue officer in the local government here in Asaba, he was on his way coming back together with his wife when the cultists shot at them around camp 74 area of Asaba, behind government house.


“The man died on the spot while his wife was rushed to hospital, were she was receiving treatment.


When contacted, the Police public relations officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe said three people have died so far in cult related matter.


PPRO however said several arrest have been made, but could not ascertain the number of cultists arrested.
