‘Cultists’ behead 40-yr-old man in Edo

Gunmen suspected to be cultists Thursday in Edo state beheaded a 40-year-old man.

The victim, identified as Taiwo Edigie, was said to have been killed on Oho Street, Uselu Quarters in Benin City, the state capital.

The state Police Command in a statement issued by its deputy spokesman, Jennifer Iwegbu, confirmed the murder of Edigie and one other in a renewed cult war.

She disclosed that police operatives had responded to the hoodlums following the arrest of 30 suspects who, according to her, were being profiled.

The statement read in part, “Following credible information that cult activities were on-going along Oho Street, Uselu, Benin City, on August 25, 2022, operatives of the Command immediately mobilised to the scene.

“On arrival at the scene, the operatives of the Command met the body of a young man later identified as One Taiwo Edigie ‘M’ 40yrs with the head severed and dropped at a different location from where the body was found.

A similar report was received on the same day that along Imuetiyan Street Off Ojo Road, Ugbowo, a yet-to-be-identified young man was killed, also in connection to the on-going cult fight.

“Intense raiding was carried out around the axis where the incident occurred and 30 suspects were arrested.

“Profiling is still ongoing and anyone found culpable or related to any of the cult rivalry killings would be arraigned in court as soon as profiling is concluded.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Abutu Yaro, while commiserating with the bereaved families, assured the good people of Edo state of the Command’s unrelenting efforts in ensuring that there is no hiding place for criminals.”
