CUPP accuses INEC of being influenced by APC chieftain in Gombe

The Gombe state chapter of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has accused Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of being influenced by a chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the recruitment of ad hoc staff for 2019 general election.

The secretary of the coalition, Mr Sunday Lewis Paris made the allegation during a press conference of the coalition in Gombe  Wednesday and  said that the Federal University, Kashere, Federal College of Education (Technical) Gombe and Federal College of Horticulture, Dadi-Kowa submitted the list of staff for the requirement of INEC adhoc staff for the 2019 general elections.

He added that the Federal College of Education and Federal College of Horticulture were not considered for the exercise after being trained by the INEC and only Federal University of Kashere were requited to participate in the 2019 general election wich influenced the APC in the state.

“The inability of INEC to include staff of Federal College of Education and Federal College Horticulture in the list of the adhoc staff is questionable and not accepted by our coalition and the election can only be free, fair and credible when there is no external influence directly or indirectly,’’ Partis stated.

In his reaction the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, dismissed the allegations saying that the commission would never compromise the electoral process.

He said INEC is commited to conduct a free, fair and credible elections.
