Curtain draws on 2017 Karate National Open Championship

The 2017 Karate National Open Championship will winds up tomorrow at the Abuja National Package B with the medal presentation and prizes awards to various athletes who have distinguished themselves in the four day championship.
On Saturday morning, the competition will get underway by 8am with Elimination in Team Kumite (male and female) .Also there will be +68kg and +84 kg competitions both in male and female categories .
According to a release by the Karate Federation of Nigeria made available to Blueprint Sports last night today (Friday) there will be coaches meeting and draws by 8am ,while there will be competition in Kata –Team and Individual, 50kg-55kg (male & female) .As from 3pm 61kg -68kg will takes to the mat to exhibit their skills.
According to the president of the Federation, Hon. Silas Agara, the championship is to select players that will represent the country at the 2020 Olympics qualifiers.
Agara, who also doubles as Nasarawa state deputy governor our correspondent gathered sponsored some athletes to the UFAK Zone three championship in Cotonou, Benin Republic where the country won two gold, two silver and three bronze medals last August
“As we prepare for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, athletes discovered here will represent Nigeria at various international events”, he said “The Commonwealth Games, WKF Championship, All African Games are fast approaching, so we as a federation want to be prepared”
He concluded that the Federation would continue to do everything to promote and develop the game of Karate in Nigeria.
