Custom seizes elephant tusks, buffalo horns in Adamawa, Taraba

The renewed efforts by the Nigerian customs service Adamawa/ Taraba command to end all forms of smuggling activities within its jurisdictions has continued to record successes as the command recently seized elephant tusks and  bufallo horns .

Other items seized by the command includes two thousand five hundred and twenty seven (2,527 x50kg)  of foreign  parboiled rice, 12 motor vehicles, 22 motor cycles, 240 bales of second hand clothing, spaghetti  used tyres, tricycles  and 52 drums of petroleum products (PMS)  totaling  11,960 litres.

Addressing journalists Monday in yola, the comptroller of  custom Adamawa / Taraba command  kamarudeen Olumoh  said, the duty paid value for all items seized is eighty million, five hundred and ninety eigth thousand four hundred and seventy six naira, twenty three kobo(#80,598,476.23).

He said the command has also witnessed improvement in the area of revenue generation adding  that the agency has exceeded the target given to the command within the period under revenue.

According to him, between January to July the command has generated the sum of one hundred and five million, nine hundred and forth five thousand, one hundred and thirty eight Naira, fourth four kobo(#105,945,1138.44) which represents 44% increase over the corresponding period of the previous year by (#73.23m).

He added that, when assessed in relation to revenue target of #86.72m given to the command for the same period it still marked an increase of 22.17% of its annual target.

The comptroller attributed the successes recorded by the command with the renew commitments of his officers and men as well as sensitization efforts which encourages traders to come forward to make declaration of their imported items among other initiatives.
