Custom takes anti-smuggling war to the doorstep of traders, transporters, others

In line with the federal government commitments to ensure food sufficiency and boost the country economy, the Nigerian customs service Adamawa/Taraba  command has taken its anti-smuggling war to the doorstep of traders, millers, transporters among other stakeholders within the command.

Speaking in an interactive session with the concerned stakeholders in the command office in yola Thursday, the comptroller of custom adamawa /Taraba command kamarudeen olumoh read riot act to the stakeholders.

He said officers and men of the command will soon raid all markets and strategic locations within the command in search of foreign rice smugglers and their collaborators, saying anyone found wanting will be dealt with according to the law

According to him, the meeting was called to interact with marketers, millers, transporters among others ahead of the clampdown as stakeholders whose supports and cooperation is needed in the ongoing war against smuggling aimed at revamping the country economic and encouraging local production.

Kamarudeen urged the stakeholders as a matter of urgency to sensitize their members against buying, selling and displaying of foreign rice in their own interest.

He further explained that government decision to banned importation of foreign rice is in the collective interest of Nigerians and already the policy have improved the country economy and put smiles on the faces of Nigerian farmers and other stakeholders hence the need to sustain these efforts in the interest of the country.

In his responds, the representative of the millers  association Mohammed Sadiq Bala  thanked the federal government for coming up with the policy, saying it has boasted their business and increased patronage from people.
