Daredevil robbers cause commotion in Makurdi

There was palpable tension as commotion rent the air following the arrest of two daredevil armed gangs near Makurdi.
The incident took place at Daudu area of Guma local government yesterday when the suspected robbers, heavily armed, tried to make their way to Makurdi, the Benue state capital, from Lafia in the neighbouring Nasarawa state but were apprehended by the police.
Eye witnesses said the ensuing chaos caused a serious traffic gridlock on the Makurdi-Lafia Road even as commuters had to wait for some hours before they could move.

One of the drivers conveying daily newspapers to Makurdi said initially, he thought the Fulani herdsmen were at it again when he saw the way people were running helter skelter while sounds of bullets resonated through the air in Daudu town.
Daudu, a town the Makurdi-Lafia road passes through, is one of the many communities in Guma Local Government Area of Benue state ravaged by the Fulani insurgents and is just trying to bounce back to life again when this incident happened.

Police spokesman in the state, SP Daniel Ezeala, confirmed that five dare devil armed robbers in a gulf car were heading towards Makurdi from Lafia when some policemen on “stop and search” stopped them.
While he debunked insinuations that the area was under Fulani attack again, Ezeala said as soon as the robbers were stopped, they all jumped out of the car and ran into the bush, thus causing commotion in the area while the police swiftly apprehended two of them and recovered three AK47 riffles from them.
