Chief Medical Director, Dahatu Araf Specialist Hospital Lafia, Dr. Ikrama Hassan, has commended Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state for giving priority to the provision of quality healthcare to the people of the state by improving facilities in the hospital.
He gave the commendation in an interview with Blueprint Sunday, in Lafia.
He appreciated the governor for completing and equipping projects started by the previous administration and putting them into use.
Ikrama said within one year, the governor has addressed the shortage of manpower by employing over 200 technical staff in the hospital.
He said the hospital had, within the last one year, increased the number of theatres from one to four and had provided more scanning machines from one to eight.
“When it comes to surgery, patients don’t need to wait for months. We have also taken delivery of dialysis machines; any moment from now, we would be offering dialysis services in the hospital,” the CMD added.
He noted that the governor had also supported the hospital with three mobile clinics for outreaches so that they can be going into the communities and see patients that may not be able to come to the hospital.
“This has helped a lot in easing the difficulty that people had faced in the past,” he said.
He said a team from the West African College of Physicians recently visited the hospital with the view to granting full accreditation to the five departments which include obstetrics /gynaecology, surgery, paediatrics, internal medicine and residency training in family medicine.
“They were so happy with the kind of facilities they saw at the hospital,” he said.
He stated further that, additional accreditation in three more departments would soon be realised in Ophthalmology, Radiography, Community Medicine and Public Health.
He stated that with the accreditation, doctors would now be trained in the hospital to become consultants in family medicine.
