Day after Umahi’s defection: APC flags, buses flood Afikpo North, govs troop into Ebonyi ahead reception party

Barely 24 hours after Ebonyi State Governor, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party’s buses have flooded Afikpo North Local Government Area (LGA).

Chairman of Afikpo North LGA, Barr. Obiageri Oko-Enyim, was the first to declare support for the governor’s intention to defect to the APC, even going as far as saying that the governor can contest for the presidency in 2023; “n order to translate the development in the state to the national level”.

As of the time of filing this report, APC flags have been hoisted at different corners of the LGA headquarters, including bill boards announcing the governor’s new party and Next Level agenda.

Meanwhile, the deputy governor of Ebonyi state, Dr. Eric Kelechi Igwe, and the Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, Wednesday afternoon received APC governors and party officials at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, for the official welcoming of Umahi and other defectors to the APC slated for Thursday. 

The visiting APC officials include governors Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state (National Caretaker Chairman of APC), Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi state, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa state and the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN).
