Death toll in Wukari skirmishes rises to 13

The death toll in the ongoing Jukun/ Tiv communal clash has risen to 13.

The bodies’ four people who were killed as a result of the crisis were found in a forest near Rafin Jada, in Wukari local government area of Taraba state.

An eye witnessed who pleaded anonymity told Blueprint in a telephone interview in Jalingo, that the four victims whose dead bodies found in the forest were on their way to Rafin kada after they heard about the early hours attacked by some militia group.

“Four people were on two motorcycles on their way to Rafin kada where some militia attacked them in the early hours of Tuesday.

“As they got to  one silent area that is full of trees,  the bandits  ambushed them and killed them all and ran away with the two motorcycles” he said.

According to him, two vehicles, a Homa jeap and an army patrol vehicles were also ambushed and one soldier was  injured in the process.

“A soldier was also shot at the forest area by the armed group during the attacked”. He added.

Another eye witness Audu Caleb told our correspondent that a son to the Madakin Wukari who was chased by some armed group from Wood market “Kasuwan katako” was also killed at the Wukari Area Command, where they removed his head and went away with it.

“A son to Madakin Wukari (KINDA), when you said “KINDA” anybody in Jukun land knows that he is a highly placed Person.

“His son was chased by those militia and they were able to catch him in Area Command in Wukari town and killed him.

 However, the soldier that were shot are currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital Wukari”he noted.

He maintained that the Madaki is the one that is currently Acting as Aku Uka of Wukari following the absent of Aku whom said to have been away for medical reasons.

However, the  caretaker chairman of Wukari local government area, Mr Andi Daniel  said unknown gunmen who carried out the attack were in army uniform.

He revealed that, many houses were burnt down and persons injured.

Meanwhile, in some media reports earlier said that some militia who blocked the road at Takum junction as well as close to yam market, all in Wukari town also killed some people after identifying their tribe as confirmed by some eye witness.

All efforts to get the Police proved abortive as the Police Public Relations Officer of Taraba state Command DSP David Misal did not responded to calls.
