Declare emergency in power sector, TUC tells FG

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has urged federal government to declare emergency in the power sector to address power challenges in the country.
The congress in a communiqué issued at the end of its national executive council (NEC) meeting at the weekend, said no nation could develop without power.
According to the communiqué jointly signed by the President, Comrade Bobbio Kaigama and the General Secretary, Musa Lawal, the workers vowed to resist any planned increase on tariff .
“The NEC-in-session calls on the federal government to declare emergency in the power sector as no natio“TUC recalls with dismay that several billions of naira have been expended in the sector to no avail. The call for tariff hike cannot be a solution and it shall be resisted.”
TUC also lamented over security challenges in the country while condemning the recent Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen attacks on innocents citizens, the group also urge Government to take action by building citizens confidence in the system. “The NEC-in-session is worried about the security situation in the country and in particular condemned the recent killings across the country by Boko Haram, Fulani herdsmen and militiamen.
The NEC enjoined federal government to take drastic action to build citizens’ confidence in the system and ensure that the perpetrators of these heinous crimes are brought to book.”
