Declare national day of prayer against COVID-19, monarch tells FG

The Osile of Oke-Ona Egbaland, Oba Adedapo Tejuoso on Wednesday urged on President Mohammadu Buhari to declare a national day of prayer to end the scourge of Coronavirus ravaging the country.

Oba Tejuoso made the call while flagging off the distribution of food items as palliatives to his subjects at his residence in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

The Monarch attributed the cause of the Coronavirus to the sins and stubbornness of the people.

For Nigeria to win the war against COVID-19, the Monarch insisted that Nigerians, irrespective of religious affiliations must dedicate a day for prayer nationwide to seek God’s face and intervention.

Oba Tejuoso described the lockdown in most parts of the country as a result of the outbreak of Coronavirus, as “prison”, saying “only God can save us from this prison.”.

The Monarch said, “We are all in COVID-19 prison but God will set us free. What brought us all here is our stubbornness to God. Our sins brought us to this precarious situation. I know God is watching us from heaven and saying He has been warning us for a long time but we didn’t listen.”

“Nobody can save us from this prison except God. The biggest prison ever is lockdown caused by COVID-19. The entire world has now become a prison yard and all of us are under house arrest.”

“God has told us what to do, He said, if my people who are called by my name should call on me, humble themselves, pray and seek my face, he said, He will look down on us and have mercy on us, He will harken to our voice and heal our land. This is not difficult for us to do.”

“Our leaders should declared a national day of prayer. As a nation, irrespective of our religious affiliation, we should all come together for a day to pray, praise God and seek God’s face in our different religions, God will hear us and answer our prayers. But our stubbornness has brought us to this situation”, Oba Tejuoso added.

Speaking on the distribution of the food items, Oba Tejuoso disclosed that with help of his Traditional Council and other well-meaning indigenes of Oke-Ona Egba, he is providing 20 bags of garri, 20 bags of rice, 14 bags of beans, three bags of salt and 25 cartoons of noodles to residents of 10 townships under Oke-Ona Egba.

He added that cash donations would also be given to 60 elderly people in his domain.
