Deepens your skills, Okowa charges Corps members


Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has charged serving members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) not to ignore the skills acquired in the course of the three-week orientation programme during their service year.

Governor Okowa asked corps members to take advantage of the post-camp centres for skills acquisition to enable them professionalise and deepen their chosen skills.

Dr. Okowa who was represented by the state Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare gave the charge at Issele-Uku in Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state during the closing ceremony of the 2019 batch ‘B’ stream I orientation course.

According to him,  “Let me emphasize that the skills acquisition and entrepreneurship training you were given, should not end here, as there are arrangements by the NYSC, supported by the state government, to link you to post-camp SAED centres to enable you professionalise and deepen your chosen skills. 

“Seize this opportunity to overcome the challenges of post-service unemployment through this veritable self-employment initiatives and knowledge.”

He enjoined them to reduce unnecessary travels during the service year, while also imploring them to contribute to the growth and development of the various host communities of their primary assignment.

The state coordinator of the NYSC, Mr. Benjamin Omotade told the corps members to unleash their leadership potentials on host communities, and leave such communities better than as they met them.

“As I have always told you, the national uniform you are wearing does not confer on you any undue advantage nor immune you from criminal prosecution.

“Accordingly you will do well to resist any temptation to get yourselves involved in any act that can bring the names of your families, alma mater, NYSC and the nation at large into disrepute.

“We have introduced you to basic culture and traditions of the good people of Delta State. When you get to your host communities, appreciate and respect their culture, language and traditions. Doing exactly this will accelerate the process of your integration and acculturation with the people,” he admonished.
