Defection: Jonathan’s directive not binding on me – Amaechi

Governor Rotimi Amaechi of River state has declared that President Goodluck Jonathan’s ultimatum to defecting Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors and members was not binding on him.

He made the declaration in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, during a chat with journalists at the first Progressive Governance Lecture tagged “Unemployment and the Crisis of Governance in Nigeria: The Way Forward.”

Amaechi said there was no way the president’s directive could affect him as a person since he never defected to the APC from the PDP, but only moved from the PDP to join the APC.

“I am not in PDP; the President’s directive to return back to the PDP does not concern me. I didn’t defect, I joined APC. There is a difference between defecting and joining,” he said.

Also, National Publicity Secretary of All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Lai Mohammed, declared that the president’s directive was illogical and should be seen as an empty threat, adding that it could best be likened to the threat of a father who warned his child giving him a deadline which the child did not meet and with no sanction imposed on him.

The APC spokesman while commenting on the directive to the PDP defectors added that Jonathan should forget about having any of the defectors back to the PDP.
Specifically, Mohammed boasted that none of the reasonable former PDP members now in the APC was ready to go back to the PDP.
