Defection: It’s Tambuwal’s day, rejoins PDP

Sokoto state Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal yesterday defected from the All Progressives Party and rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party with thousand of his supporters.
Tambuwal, who disclosed this while addressing party supporters at the Government House, Sokoto, said majority of Nigerians were currently facing hardship under the Muhammadu Buhari-led APC government.
The governor recalled that he left PDP for APC in 2014 as a result of bad governance, adding that not much has changed in the last three years “The economy and security is getting worse.
People are being killed in Zamfara on daily basis.
The situation of the common people is veryprecarious.
” That is why we decided to join forces with other progressive Nigerians to get a new competent leadership that can deliver the goods and rescue the country from the current hardship,” he said.
Tambuwal posited that the people of Sokoto have not benefited from any single project from the federal government in the last three years.
“As you all can testify, Sokoto has not benefited from any single ederal government project in the last three years.
“We have nothing to show for supporting APC in the last three years.
So, we have no option than to leave APC because the people of Sokoto did not benefit from any single project,” the governor further stressed.
He declared: “I stand before you with a heavy heart, wishing I had cheery words of progress, instead of the sad report that I am constrained to give you on the situation of our dear nation.
“The struggle for democracy is one that began with our fight for independence as a sovereign nation.
To this end, the blood, freedom and other liberties of our past heroes and contemporary veterans were sacrificed.
The current dispensation began in 1999, as the watershed of our toil, which granted to us a democratic system that is striving to evolve and survive.” “Through those years the forces of genuine change gravitated and by 2015, merged to ensure a transition of power that Nigerians hoped would herald a new order of true democracy under an atmosphere of justice, peace, equity and the rule of law.
The leaders of that coalition represented and symbolized the aspiration of Nigerians for progress and prosperity under one united, indivisible nation.
“As the speaker of the House of Representatives then, I left my comfort zone to be involved in the struggle for the enthronement of purposeful leadership for the citizens of our dear country.
“Now, almost four years into what ought to be a new order as desired and elected by Nigerians, the nation is unfortunately going through the most difficult and precarious times, since the Civil war; with ethno, religious and regional distrust at its highest ebb,” the governor added.
Bolaji Abdullahi quits Similarly, the APC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, has resigned from the party.
Abdullahi, whose political family in Kwara state led by Senate President Bukola Saraki defected earlier on Tuesday to the PDP , announced his resignation yesterday.
In a statement, Abdullahi said he found distasteful the move by the party leadership to undermine his office as the spokesman of the party.
He also frowned at what he described as “an unlawful dissolution of the validly elected party executive in Kwara State”, saying that it amounted to double standards for a party that preaches change.
Abdullahi’s statement read: “In the last few days, I have had to endure the flagrant usurpation of my role as the spokesman of the party in a manner that I consider unbefitting of a ruling party and inconsistent with my ethical standards.
“I have served the APC honestly and to the best of my ability and when I stood for and won my election at the last convention; it was a keen desire to continue to do so.
However, in a situation whereby my loyalty is constantly brought into question; my subordinates deployed to subvert my office; and my views constantly second-guessed on the basis of my political affiliation, it has become imperative for me to review my position.”
