Defections: Fulani organisation blasts Maku over comments

A Fulani socio-cultural organisation, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, has lambasted the Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, for describing governors who defected from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC) as “nomads” who fancied migrating from one place to another in search of greener pastures.

National President of the association, Alhaji Bello Abdullahi Bodejo, made the remark in a press statement he issued yesterday in Abuja.
Bodejo said the minister should learn to use decent language in political circles, describing his utterances as “unfortunate, baseless and a ploy to rubbish the Fulani” whom, he said, were more than Maku’s kinsmen in Nasarawa state.

“We Fulani have more than eight governors, ministers, directors and some of us are flourishing well in our chosen careers,” he said.
He urged President Goodluck Jonathan to, as a matter of urgency, call his information minister to order “because such unguarded utterances are like an ill wind that blows nobody any good.”

Bodejo also said Fulani were law-abiding citizens and would continue to contribute their quota to national unity and development.
He appealed to the nomads to be their brothers’ keepers and cooperate with constituted authorities in order to minimise cattle breeders and farmers’ unrest.
