Defend yourselves if attacked, NPF tells personnel

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has directed its personnel to defend themselves from further attacks and killings.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Police Mobile Force, Aderemi Adeoye, who coordinates operations of the Police mobile force across the five states of South east, made the call Tuesday at police headquarters, Abakaliki, Ebonyi state capital, while addressing special mobile policemen from different parts of the country deployed to the state for operation to restore peace.

He commended the special mobile policemen for their gallantry which he said led to the end of killing of security agents and destruction of government facilities by unknown gunmen.

He called on policemen to defend themselves against further attacks and killings by any unknown gunman.

Adeoye commended the Inspector-General of Police for initiating operation restore peace and assured the policemen that their welfare would not be toyed with by the police force.

“You have been on ground and you have done us proud by your discipline, dedication and commitment. You have raised the flag of the Nigeria Police high, you have restored the confidence of the police in the ability of the police and protect lives and property. ‘’You have been true to your calling and to your training and you have done gallantly, you have put an end to the attacks on police stations, federal institutions and policemen and women. You have come from all over the country to secure lives and property and you have done it well.

“You laid your lives on the line to protect the citizenry. It is the highest call and we are proud. I have come to identify and empathise with you. Some of our colleagues have lost their lives and some have been injured in the course of this national assignment and we shall never abandon them to their fate. Those who have lost their lives, the force will ensure their benefits are processed and their relations get some succor from the police insurance scheme. Do not be discouraged, do not be demoralised. I want you to sustain the attitude of discipline.’’
