Delegates advocate for extension

Barely two months to complete the three month budgeted for the ongoing National Conference by the federal government, some delegates have already started advocating for more time, citing committees’ work as a factor.
While discussing the Work Plan, which is a document stating the activities of the conference and the time-frame attached to such activities yesterday at the plenary, which indicates that committee work would begin on Tuesday April 22 and would end on Wednesday April 30, many delegates thought otherwise.

Contributing, a delegate, Chief Temitope Ajayi, well known as “Mama Diaspora” told the conference that the two weeks planned for the committees to work would not be enough to complete the job and determine a better future for Nigeria and Nigerians.
She reminded the conference that the real reason why she left United States of America (USA) was in the committee work.
Also contributing, Olu Ajakaye, believed that the time allocated for committees to work was too short, adding that the secretariat should provide more technical support to aid the smooth running of the committees’ work.

The chairman, Justice Kutigi therefore appealed to delegates to get down to work first and if the need for extension arises in the process, the necessary representation will be made to the appropriate quarters.
He said the Work Plan was drawn based on the time allotted to the conference by the federal government; and that any attempt at arbitrary adjustment could be misunderstood even by the general public who may misconstrue the motive.
The chairman assured that everything would be done to ensure that lack of time does not hinder the justification of the conference but urged delegates to properly articulate their points at the committee level and be opened to suggestions from others.
