Delta: Police arrest physically challenged for ‘stealing’ pants, bra

Delta state police command has arrested a 40-year-old man simply identified as Mathew for stealing proprietor’s pants and wife’s bra in popular hotel in Asaba.

The victim was the proprietor of Stop Over hotel Asaba, Mr Victor Odiachi and wife, Mrs Odiachi.

It was gathered that the suspect came to Stop Over hotel on Monday at about 9:45pm in clutches, and claimed to hail from Ogwashi-Uku and was in Asaba for medical treatment.

A source said the suspect was assigned a room on the ground floor due to his health condition.

According to the source, “The proprietor got up at about 3:am to collect his phones in the sitting room, he observed that the two phones had been switched off and that prompted him to go to the flower vase, where he usually kept his car key to pick it up only to discover that the key was not there.

He said hotel owner and his wife entered the room where the suspect lodged and on enquiry about the car key, he gave it to him, saying he saw it on the floor.

He noted that the attitude of the suspect made his wife to try to pull off the mattress on the bed but the suspect tried to prevent her saying it was when he shouted at him that he gave up his resistance.

The source said on pulling off the mattress, they noticed a tied wrapper containing some items and when it was opened, to their surprise what it contained was three of his pants, his wife’s bra and wrapper, as well as the gate key wrapped with black cellophane.

He said on discovery of the items, the suspect pleaded with him not to expose him and offered to give him and the wife N10, 000 to cover up the incident.

The source however said the proprietor said “We are still in a loss on what the suspect intended to do with their underwear and other items and we have to put a call to police control room at about 4:am and a police team came to the Stop Over and took the suspect to A Division police station, Asaba.
