Delta Principal Cup: College of Commerce, Warri emerges winner with new bus, N1m cash

College of Commerce, Warri on Thursday beat  Zappa Mixed Secondary School, Asaba 2 – 1 to lift the 2019 Zennith Bank/ Delta Principal Cup at Stephen  Keshi stadium, Asaba, Delta state

  Destiny Secondary School, Ughelli clinched the third position after defeating Okotic Eboh Grammar school, Sapele by 3 goals to nil in a one sided match completely dominated by the Ughelli boys.

In the final, Ime Ekemini, scored a brace for College of Commerce by getting  the curtain raiser in the 63rd minute of the keenly contested match while the second goal followed shortly.

Zappa Mixed Secondary School, however got a consolation goal in the 85 minute through the spot kick which the referee awarded as a result of an infringement on Zappa player in the 18-yard box.

Incidentally, Ime Ekemini emerged the highest goal scorer of the tournament with total of eight goals as well as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

College of commerce, Warri went home with 18- seater bus, N1m cash as the champions, while first runner up, Zappa mixed Secondary School; Asaba received N750,000, Destiny Secondary School, Ughelli got N500,000 and the fourth place, Okotic Eboh Grammar, Sapele was consoled with N100,000.

In his remark, Gov Ifeanyi Okowa, urged Deltans to help develop the economy of the state by supporting sporting  activities in the state.

Governor Okowa said his administration in partnership with Zenith Bank  were trying to reinvent the competition, since competitions of this nature had not taken place in the schools for a long time just as he reeled out his experience when he participated in school sports while growing up.

He expressed hope that every single institution would participate saying 612 schools that registered for the competition shows level of excitement  and raw talents that would be fished out in the course of the competition.

According to him, “My duty is to talk to well endowed Deltans to help in the sponsorship of sports as a support for the children, because the more we support them, the better for us as a state, he said.

The important thing is that we discover the budding talents and be able to develop them.

At every sports competitions, we had done well. I am happy with the level of competition I have seen this year. Thanks to the sponsors and all present, Okowa concluded.
