Delta received N179bn from federation account in 2017 – Commissioner

Delta state government yesterday said it has received y N179 billion as the gross statutory allocation and derivation revenue from the federation account in 2017. The state Commissioner Finance, Mr. David Edevbie, who stated this in Asaba during the ministerial briefing, said the state government’s aggregate expenditure for the period was about N209 billion compared to a budget of N294 billion.

The finance commissioner, however, said the state government realised N51 billion in 2017, representing a 73.18 per cent performance when compared to the budgeted revenue for the period, through internally generated revenue. Edevbie said that the Board of Internal Revenue was collaborating with the judiciary and security agencies with a view to stepping up tax compliance and enforcement.

He said the board was also focusing on capturing more than 70 per cent of taxable persons in the informal sector in the tax net. According to him, “the state during the period received a total of N179.481, 702, 851.92 as the gross statutory allocation, value added tax and derivation revenue from the federation account, compared with the proportionate estimate of N294,457,040,477, showing a performance of 60.95 per cent.

“A total of N17, 285, 000,000.00 was released to the Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (DESOPADEC) as against the N28 billion provided in the 2017 budget during the period.”
