Deploy sports as tool to end banditry, insecurity – Kaduna Speaker

The Speaker, Kaduna State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Ibrahim Zailani has urged Nigerian leaders to use sports as a tool to bring an end to insurgency, banditry and other forms of insecurity bedeviling the country.

Speaking on Thursday while declaring open a 3-day Workshop On Coaching Management at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna, organised by Adams Ekene, his Senior Special Assistant on Youth, Sports and Culture, Zailani, who was represented by his Special Adviser on media and Publicity, Ibrahim Danfulani, said Nigeria has yet to explore the full potentials of sports.

“To end the growing army of willing tools in the hands of bandits and insurgents, we need to put on our thinking caps. All available options must be explored, including the economic angle, which will put food on more tables of our citizens and youth,” Zailani said.

The Speaker said that the workshop is another milestone achievement of the Malam Nasir el-Rufai’s administration in job creation and empowerment of youth. “I am highly delighted to be part of yet another historic moment. “This is because sports besides ensuring that we remain healthy, is a huge income earner and has potentials of employing several youth,” he added.

Zailani recounts that when Ekene Adams came to him about the programme, he immediately approved it and gave him the go ahead in view of the impact it would have on the immediate society and Nigeria at large.

“This three-day workshop is one veritable tool that will not only train the participants, but will serve as an avenue of training the trainer,” he said, while urging all the participants to concentrate and understand all information that the resource persons will make available to them.

“I have full confidence on the resource persons, knowing that they are coming all the way from the National Institute of Sports (NIS) and the certificates the participants will be issued will be accepted anywhere in the world,” he added.
