Destruction of N100m electricity facilities causes darkness in Makurdi

Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED) has said that about N100million worth of electrical facilities and installations in Makurdi, the Benue state capital, and its environs were destroyed by the windstorm that swept through the town a few days ago.
The Makurdi Business District Manager of the company, Engr. John Emeruwa, who stated this yesterday in Makurdi while responding to enquiries on the matter from a section of the press, said the company suffered monumental damages to it facilities as result of the storm.

Calling on residents to exercise patience and give the company few days to replace the destroyed facilities, he said despite the loss, power supply was restored to over 85 per cent of the town within 48 hours.
“The loss we incurred as a result of the windstorm which pulled down our power lines and poles was worth over N100million, but our headquarters quickly moved in all needed materials from Jos to ensure the immediate restoration of power supply to all parts of the town and its environs.

“This is actually the first time we are receiving these volume of materials in Makurdi to enable us effect repairs to our damaged facilities within 48 hours, which is perhaps one of the greatest benefits of the privatisation of the power sector.”
Emeruwa, who pleaded for understanding from consumers in the state, urged consumers to safeguard power facilities and installations in their neigbourhoods from vandals.
