Devid remains ALGON president, says Sec Gen

The Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) has debunked the report making the rounds about the removal from office of its president, Hon Kolade Alabi Devid, saying there was no change of leadership in its fold.

Last Friday, a group had issued a statement declaring the present deputy national president, Hon Mahmud Mohammed Aliyu, the executive chairman of Obama local government areas of Kaduna state as the new president of ALGON.

The group claimed that Aliyu was unanimously elected in Abuja by NEC as the new president of the association with effect from the 6th of September, 2019.

But speaking Tuesday in Abuja, ALGON secretary general Hajiya Binta Bello said the purported removal from office of the president, Hon Kolade Alabi Devid, is in the figment of the imagination of those who concocted the story.

According to Hajiya Bello, she, as the secretary general of the association, is reposed with the responsibility of summoning a meeting of the national executive council (NEC) on the instruction of the president.

Bello noted that she neither called for the usual NEC nor any emergency meeting but merely heard on the news that the president had been removed.

Bello, a retired permanent secretary warned that she cannot be part of the illegality as the laws are very clear on how NEC should be convened before such decision can be taken.

Meanwhile, many state chapters of ALGON including Katsina state chapter, have been sending their solidarity messages to the sitting president, Hon Kolade Devid, indicating that his removal was unconstitutional.

They also stated that they were not part of any meeting to remove the ALGON president.
