DIG to lead police team for Ekiti gov election

Indication emerged in Ado-Ekiti yesterday that the Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) of Police, in charge of Operations, Mr Mike Zuokoumor, would lead the Police team that would provide security during the June 21, governorship poll in Ekiti state.
Zuokoumor, who gave the indication during a media chat at meeting he had with top hierarchy of the Force in Ekiti state to access their level of preparedness for the June 21 governorship election, saying that Ekiti would be heavily policed before, during and after the election.
Though he did not mention figure, he said he would be assisted by a number of Assistant Inspectors-General and Commissioners of Police who will all arrive the state days before the actual election date.

Zuokoumor said more than enough men and equipment would also be deployed in a manner that would make it difficult for anyone to perpetrate electoral crime and get away with it.
Aside from the hordes of policemen coming for the election, he said a total 25 sniffer dogs and horses, along with 200 Counter Terrorism Specialists, and 200 Crime Prevention Officers, were also due in Ekiti.
He said: “We shall be in Ekiti in full force to ensure security of lives and property. I can assure Nigerians and indeed Ekiti people that this election will come and go without a hitch, I stand firm on this.
“Therefore, anybody trying to constitute evil or any form of disturbance is advised to steer clear before it is too late.”
