Diplomatic sports: LOC seeks FCTA support

Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the forthcoming maiden edition of Diplomatic Sports has solicited for support of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) for a successful outing.

The sporting event is scheduled for April 7th- 12th, 2O14, at both Package A and B of the National Stadium, Abuja.
Following an approval for the implementation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with Umex Integrated Services on the 19th of September, 2013, all resident diplomatic missions in the country endorsed the programme for participation.

Chairman, LOC, Diplomatic Sports, Hon. Moses Essien, on a courtesy call to Minister of State for FCT, Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide, said the event would bring together the highest concentration of all members of the Diplomatic Community, their families as well as their diaspora, for the first time in Nigeria’s history.

He said: “The courtesy call is to afford the LOC the opportunity to brief the minister on its efforts towards achieving a successful outing in 2014 and finally seek the guidance, blessing and full support of the Hon. Ministers and the entire FCT administration.”

Essien said the programme, which is to be an annual event, would involve a wide range of indoor and outdoor sporting activities such as football, golf, table tennis, tennis, badminton, boxing, swimming, snookers, chess, and scrabble, among others.
He said the programme is aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s existing cordial relationship with the global community through Diplomatic Missions.
