Disability Act: NCPC boss Pam thumbs up Buhari

The executive secretary, Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Rev. Yakubu Pam, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for signing the Discrimination Against Persons with Disability (Prohibition) Act, 2019.

He made the commendation in Abuja when executive members of the Association of People with Disability Applicants paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja Thursday.

He noted that by the signing of the Act the president had helped to fully integrate the persons living with disabilities in the society, adding that with the president’s action the challenges “facing this category of persons in the society will be addressed.”

Rev. Pam urged Nigerians to respect the dignity of persons living with disabilities, assuring the association that the NCPC would work in tandem with the provisions in the Disability Act which prescribe five percent employment opportunities against discrimination for persons living with disabilities in every organisation.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation who is the South-west coordinator of the Association of People with Disability Applicants, Mr. Adeusi Gbenga, also applauded the president for taking the bold initiative to sign the Disability Act, 2019.

He said “this is the first time we are having this Disability Act in Nigeria,” and solicited the cooperation of the NCPC boss to offer their members the opportunity to work in the Commission.
